Mike’s Sculpture

Mike asked us to make him a sculpture for his garden not as a memorial, but simply to represent him and his lovely wife Sue.

He specifically asked for something with glass.

Mike and Sue have a great love of gardening, so we looked at that as a theme. Mike has spent a good deal of time in Venice, so we thought about the shape of Venetian bridges crossing the canals, and Sue has a wonderful colour sense. These were our starting points for designing the sculpture.

The finished piece has the curve of a bridge on the top, but also refers to a seed pod shape. The two areas of glass represent them, the bright colours Sue, and the blue Mike, with the one yellow circle amongst blue, reflecting his love of the sun. The two of them are the peas in a pod!

It was a great pleasure to place the sculpture in their beautiful garden.

They can see the evening sun shine through the glass as they relax in their conservatory.
