Remembering the Soldiers of Burbage

I have been enjoying helping to design a war memorial for a small village in Somerset, this has got me looking at how different towns mark the lives of soldiers lost locally.

When visiting relatives in Burbage, Leicestershire, I noticed they had plaques on the houses where soldiers had lived. Immediately I could imagine the soldier stepping through the door to go off to war, and his family receiving the telegram containing the news of his death.

Such a simple unassuming memorial and yet so poignant and personal. Truly remembering the people rather than the emphasis being on the event. A lovely and simple idea.
